Information for Patients & Families

🏥 What is Inpatient Rehabilitation?

Inpatient rehabilitation is a specialized hospital program for patients who have experienced a medical event that affected their ability to perform daily activities. Our goal is to help you regain independence through intensive therapy.

Q: Who qualifies for inpatient rehabilitation?
Patients who have had a stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, hip fracture, joint replacement, amputation, or other conditions that have affected their ability to walk, dress, bathe, or care for themselves. You must be able to participate in 3+ hours of therapy daily.
Q: How is this different from a nursing home?
Inpatient rehab provides 3x more therapy than skilled nursing facilities (15+ hours/week vs. 5-9 hours). You'll have daily physician visits, more nursing attention, and typically recover faster with better outcomes.
Q: What does a typical day look like?
You'll have scheduled therapy sessions throughout the day (usually 2-3 sessions), meals in the dining room when able, rest periods, and time with family. Therapists work on walking, balance, dressing, bathing, and other daily activities.
Q: Will my insurance cover this?
Most insurance plans, including Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance, cover inpatient rehabilitation when medically necessary. Our admissions team will verify your coverage before admission.
Q: Can family members visit?
Yes! Family involvement is encouraged. We also offer family training sessions so you can learn how to safely assist your loved one at home after discharge.
Q: What happens after discharge?
Our case managers will work with you to arrange follow-up care, which may include outpatient therapy, home health services, or other support to continue your recovery at home.
